Hailed as a national music treasure (Christchurch Arts Festival 2014) the New Zealand Guitar Quartet (NZGQ) was formed in 2010, and features classical guitarists Owen Moriarty, Jane Curry, John Couch and Vladimir Gorbach. Recent performances include concert tours in China (Centennial Hall, Peking University, Sunrise Concert Hall, Beihang University, Beijing) and Australia (Excelsior Hall (Illawarra, NSW), ANU School of Music (Canberra), and the Glebe Town Hall (Sydney). Nationally, the group has toured several times through both Chamber Music NZ and Arts on Tour (most recently completing a 22 concert tour in 2019). NZGQ's 2018 engagements included performances at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America Convention (Louisville Kentucky) USA, Guitarromania (Colima) Mexico, the Brisbane International Guitar Festival, Australia, and a performance of Rodrigo's Concierto Andaluz with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.

The NZGQ has two CD releases, with both discs featuring premieres of commissioned work by New Zealand and Australian composers as well as original arrangements by Owen Moriarty. The NZGQ is committed to developing new music for guitar quartet, commissioning award winning composers Bruce Paine (NZ), Michael Williams (NZ) Marian Budos (AU), Marek Pasiezcny (PLD), Gary Ryan (UK), Vincent Lindsay-Clark (UK) and Polina Nazaykinskaya (USSR) among others.
